We want help naming our chickens

There are 3 of us and there will  be 4 hens.  We are each naming one, but that leaves one for our friends and family to name.  Here are our ideas for names so far: Ida, Loraine, Jannica, Mrs. Butterworth, Poppy, Nora….If your name is chosen you get a dozen happy eggs (when they come) for free!  I do not know what breed of chickens we are going to get, but they will all be females.  We plan to get them early to mid March 2011.

    Bone missed one name when making Dannica’s list…which she did end up using–UNICORN! Now for my stereotypical list: peace sign, hippy, tie-dye, volkswagon, flower, John, Ringo, George, Paul

    I would suggest naming each one after a Beatle!!! O man, great idea! That’s exactly what I would do.

    That is true. Ya, it wouldn’t be as good with “Mrs.” What about Stinky?
    Or “Land Before Time” characters (sorry, just watched it): Little Foot, Ducky, Peetri, Spike, or Sara
    Or name them after the Golden Girls!- Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia
    Or are three chickens already named for sure?

      Good call w/ the Golden Girls. I like Blanche the best out of those 4. We were thinking “old time” names, so it fits perfectly! We discussed all naming one but there have been so many great names Im sure we will use more than one of the suggestions. Im actually liking Yolko.

    I’m pretty sure I get best friend rights to a few eggs, but I love naming animals! I think her name should be Fanny. It’s cute. And it’s a cute name for butt, which is kind of where the eggs come from. And you can nickname her Fanny Feathers. Or Fanny Fine. Or Fan-tastic. Or… Fanny Belt. See? It’s adorable!

      I’m actually really digging Fanny… for some reason my vegan brain is telling me it’s insensitive to name a hen after dishes in which we’ll use her unfertilized eggs, but I guess it’s not that bad. Quiche as a name is pretty great.

    I was thinking Popeye, Colonel, Mrs. Winners, or Temple because Churches just doesn’t seem fair. All of these being chicken places.

    I also like the Golden Girls.
    I know they are all females but I like Howard, Fred, Robin, and Artie (you could insert Benji or Beth O here)

    i guess you didn’t like the ones we came up with? I like Yolko .If you like old country names, how about Aunt Maude, Aunt Valli, Aunt Melba and Aunt Celia. These were aunts of mine, probably all raised chickens at one time.

    Hey there, so I looked through the names and forgot about 80’s egg warmers. Pretty stellar, yes? It’s a bit long… we have to think about how we’re going to call our chickens. “Hey, 80’s egg warmers!” Doesn’t work does it. But what a great name. And Eggnacio… super clever but I don’t think I can have a Shakespeare name around here. I have too much Shakespeare in my life. Is that possible? Yes.

    One last name. Hopefully, you’ll have a “sure fire” hen who’s an egg laying machine. A real sharp shooter when it comes to production. If you do, there’s only one name for her:

    “Annie Yokely”

    Dreams really do come true in Soulard, for chickens, dogs and everyone who dares to dream.

    One more chicken name. A cool name. “Belle” in honor of Hymie Bell, who most historians believe invented the Egg Cream in New York in the late 1800’s.

    Consider naming one of the hens “Prissy” in honor of the wonderful old hen who was mother to “Junior” in the old Foghorn Leghorn Warner Bros. cartoons.
