A neighborhood menace

This hawk was sitting on top of our chicken pen this afternoon… it was about as big as Chica! Good thing the ladies are completely fenced in, including chicken wire and corrugated plastic on top, and chicken wire buried along the sides underground.

I just returned from NC late last week. While sitting with my mom on her front porch, a huge red tailed hawk flew towards the house, swooped down and plucked a medium sized squirrel out of his nest. The hawk flew away quickly with the squirming and crying squirrel. We need to watch the “girls.” This could be bad…..

When Woody was a 3 lb puppy and we lived in NC, there were red-tailed hawks all around. I was so worried he’d get picked up in the backyard, so I kept a close eye on him. You guys are smart to protect your babies!

Hopefully all of the evil hawks are in NC and MO hawks turn out to be benevolent… we’ll keep our eyes on the ladies and hope for the best!
